At each maintenance of the car check a condition of a protective cover of the steering mechanism, caps of hinges of drafts and density of their landing. Them it is necessary
to replace in the presence of cracks, gaps and other defects breaking tightness.
All amplifiers of a steering publish different sounds at work. One of the most widespread sounds is hissing at turn of a steering wheel on the standing car. This sound is especially well audible at turn of a steering wheel with simultaneous pressing a brake pedal. This sound is not connected at all with operability of a steering. Do not replace the distributor if only the hissing sound does not become too loud. The new distributor will publish too weak noise, and malfunction is eliminated with such replacement not in all cases.
Be convinced that at the rectilinear provision of wheels of the car the spoke of a steering wheel settles down horizontally. Otherwise define a cause of defect and eliminate it.
Turning for a steering wheel from an emphasis against the stop, check visually and aurally the following:
– reliability of fastening of a steering column, steering mechanism and steering wheel;
– lack of a gap in rezinometallichesky hinges and hinges of steering drafts, and also in connections of the elastic coupling of a shaft of a wheel;
– reliability of an inhaling and latching of bolts of fastening of bent for to a steering rack and nuts of fingers of spherical hinges;
– absence of jammings and the hindrances interfering turn of a steering wheel.
If knocks and jammings are found, disconnect cross-section drafts from rotary levers of telescopic racks of a suspension bracket and repeat check. Having convinced that knocks and jammings proceed from a steering, remove it from the car and check gap size between an emphasis of a lath and a nut. The most admissible gap between an emphasis and a nut of 0,2 mm. If necessary replace worn-out details and adjust a gap between an emphasis and a nut.
Check of a free wheeling of a steering wheel
Establish a steering wheel in the provision of rectilinear movement and start up the engine.
Check a free wheeling of a steering wheel on its circle.
The free wheeling of a steering wheel should be 0–30 mm.
At excess of the specified value check connections between shaft of a steering and a steering drive.
Check of angles of rotation of wheels

Establish the car forward wheels on the rotary stand and check angles of rotation of wheels (fig. 5.1)
Angle of rotation of wheels (the car without loading):
the internal..... 37 °±1°30'
the external..... 33°03'
If angles of rotation of wheels do not correspond to the specified values, adjust a convergence of wheels and again check angles of rotation.
Check of a condition of tips of steering drafts
Check of the moment of resistance to a provorachivaniye of fingers of spherical hinges of tips of steering drafts

By means of the special adaptation disconnect steering draft from a rotary fist (fig. 5.2)
Be convinced of lack of an excessive gap in the spherical hinge of a tip of draft, having several times turned the hinge for a finger roundabouts.

Wrap a nut of fastening of a finger of the hinge of draft and check the moment of resistance a provorachivaniya of a finger of the hinge (fig. 5.3)
, it should be equal 0,5–2,5 N · to m.
If the moment of resistance a provorachivaniya exceeds the specified top limit, replace a tip of steering draft.
If the moment of resistance a provorachivaniya of a finger of the hinge less than the specified bottom limit, check a gap in the hinge and if necessary replace it.
Check of effort of turn of a steering wheel on the standing car
Put the car on an equal horizontal platform, establish a steering wheel in the provision of rectilinear movement.
Increase frequency of rotation of a cranked shaft to (1000±100) mines
After check lower engine turns to idling turns.

By means of spring scales check effort of turn of a steering wheel, turning it on 1,5 turns in both parties (fig. 5.4)
The effort of turn of a steering wheel on the motionless car should make 29 N (3,0 kgfs).
During rotation of a steering wheel be convinced of absence of sharp changes of effort.
At the increased effort of turn of a steering wheel execute the following checks and adjustments:
– check spherical hinges of tips of steering drafts and protective covers on existence of cracks or damages;
– check the moment of a provorachivaniye of a driving gear wheel of the steering mechanism and spherical hinges of tips of steering drafts;
– moment of a provorachivaniye of the spherical hinge.
Check of return of a steering wheel in the provision of rectilinear movement
Check spontaneous return of a steering wheel on the following parameters.
At performance of moderate or sharp turns effort on a steering wheel and its return should be identical in the left and right turns.
After turn of a steering wheel on 90 ° and its keeping within several seconds during car movement for speed of 35 km/h the released steering wheel should turn not less than on 70 ° towards neutral situation.
At very sharp turn of a steering wheel the increased resistance can quickly be felt. It is not a malfunction sign, and is connected with some decrease in giving of the pump of the hydraulic booster.

The deflection of a belt of a drive of the pump of the hydraulic booster should be 6–9 mm.
At discrepancy of a deflection of a belt to the specified limits adjust a belt tension, as shown below.

Weaken an inhaling of a bolt of adjustment of a tension of a belt of a drive of the pump (fig. 5.6)

Insert the suitable lever between an arm and the pump, adjust a belt tension to the necessary size turn of the case of the pump (fig. 5.7)
Tighten an adjusting bolt.
Check a tension of a belt and if necessary repeat adjustment.
Turn a belt of a drive of the pump in the normal direction several times and once again check a belt deflection.
Check of level of liquid in a tank of the hydraulic booster
Establish the car on an equal horizontal platform.
Start up the engine. On the motionless car several times without breaks turn a steering wheel to the right-to the left for warming up of working liquid to temperature of 50-60 °C.
At operation of the engine idling several times turn a steering wheel from an emphasis against the stop.

Be convinced of absence of foaming or liquid turbidity in a tank (fig. 5.8)
Stop the engine and check a difference of level of liquid in a tank at the stopped and working engine.
If level of liquid changed not less than on 5 mm, again pump over system of the hydraulic booster.
If level of liquid sharply raises after an engine stop, again pump over system.
Incomplete removal of air causes jingling noise of the pump, the raised shumnost of operation of the distributor and reduces pump service life.
Replacement of working liquid of the hydraulic booster
Lift a forward part of the car before posting of wheels and establish on supports.
Disconnect a drain hose from a tank of a hydraulic actuator and muffle a tank opening.
Attach to a drain hose a vinyl hose and lower its end in the prepared capacity.
Disconnect a high-voltage wire from the ignition coil.
Merge liquid from system, having several times switched on and off a starter and turning a steering wheel in both parties against the stop.
Attach to a tank a drain hose and reliably fix it a collar.
The PSF-3 liquid volume for filling of system makes 0,75–0,8 l.
Fill in in a tank of the hydraulic booster liquid of demanded brand.
Start up the engine.
Be convinced of lack of a podtekaniye of liquid through hose connection, stop the engine.
Add liquid to the lower part of the filter of a tank of the hydraulic booster.
Remove air from system.
Air removal from system of the hydraulic booster
Disconnect a high-voltage wire from the ignition coil. Switching on and off a starter during 15–20 with, five-six times turn a steering wheel from an emphasis against the stop.
If pumping is carried out at operation of the engine idling, air will get to liquid. Therefore carry out pumping only at an engine prokruchivaniye a starter.
During pumping add liquid in a tank so that its level did not fall below the filter.
Attach a high-voltage wire to the coil of ignition and start up the engine idling.
Turn a steering wheel until in liquid in a tank there will be no air vials.

Be convinced that liquid did not become dairy color, and its level is between labels "MOVE" and «MIN» on a tank wall (fig. 5.9)
Be convinced that liquid level in a tank slightly changes at turn of a steering wheel in both parties.
Repeat system pumping:
– if level of liquid changed more than on 10 mm;
– if liquid level sharply raises at an engine stop.
Check of pressure of forcing of the pump of the hydraulic booster

Disconnect from the pump a hose of a high pressure. Attach to the pump and a hose of a high pressure the adaptation for pressure check, as is shown in
Pump over system, then start up the engine and warm up working liquid to working temperature (about 50-60 °C), having several times turned a steering wheel.
Increase frequency of rotation of a cranked shaft to (1000±100) mines
Close the crane of a manometer and check compliance of pressure of liquid to the specified limits.
Pressure of forcing of the pump of the hydraulic booster of 8,3-8,8 MPas (85–90 kgfs/cm
It is allowed to close the manometer crane for the period of no more than 10 pages.
If pressure does not keep within the specified limits, repair the pump.
Remove control adaptations and attach to the pump a hose of high pressure, tighten the union the moment of 55-65 N · m.
Pump over system.
