The lay brake system is shown on fig. 6.45 .
The lay brake system with a mechanical drive affects brake mechanisms of back wheels. The drive of the parking brake consists of the lever, adjusting draft, the equalizer, driving cables, levers of a drive of brake shoes and a razzhimny level with the built-in mechanism of automatic adjustment of a gap between a drum and blocks.
Removal
Remove the central console of the dashboard.

Weaken an adjusting nut and disconnect a cable of a drive of the parking brake (fig. 6.46) .
Remove the switch of a control lamp of the parking brake.
Remove the lever of a drive of the parking brake, having unscrewed screws of its fastening.
Remove a back wheel.
Remove a brake drum.
Remove a nave of a back wheel.
Remove brake shoes.
Disconnect a cable from the lever of a drive of blocks.

Remove a ring of fastening of a cable of a drive of the parking brake to a board of the brake mechanism (fig. 6.47) .
Remove a cable of a drive of the parking brake, having weakened a fastening clip.
Check of a technical condition
Check operation of the switch of a control lamp of the parking brake.
Check gear sector of the lever of a drive of the parking brake on wear existence.
Check cables of a drive of the parking brake on existence of wear or damages.
Replace a cable in the following cases:
– cable tips are weakened;
– cable threads started to be torn;
– the cable hard moves in a cover even after its greasing.
Installation
Installation is carried out as it should be, the return to removal.
Before installation of a brake drum check external diameter of brake shoes (at the established blocks).
External diameter of brake shoes of cars without anti-blocking system of brakes (diameter of a drum of 7 inches) should be 179,5–179,0; the cars equipped with anti-blocking system of brakes (diameter of a drum of 8 inches), – 202,2–201,7 mm.
Adjust a cable of a drive of the parking brake for what execute the following:
– about twenty times press a brake pedal with effort of 10 kgfs;
– not less than three times against the stop lift the lever of the parking brake.
Having pulled for the lever of the parking brake up with the effort of 20 kgfs enclosed in a point, 25 mm located at distance from the lever end, an adjusting nut adjust a drive cable so that the lever of a drive of the parking brake moved on 6–8 teeth of sector.
